    What is Kickboxing?

    Kickboxing has become a popular form of exercise in the United States. Chances are you know something about it or someone who has tried it. Maybe that someone is you. But for the unfamiliar, kickboxing is a martial art and a great form of exercise. It is a stand-up combat sport that started in the 1950’s and made its way to the United States in the 1970’s. Kickboxing, along with other techniques including Brazilian jiu jitsu, has played a prominent role in the formulation of mixed martial arts (MMA).

    In kickboxing classes, you will learn kickboxing fundamentals, which are based on a combination of karate and boxing. It consists of a range of different kicking, punching, and striking motions as well as several different defensive strategies. Though there are competitive kickboxers that fight professionally, many children and adults take kickboxing classes simply for a great workout and enjoyment of the sport. Kickboxing classes primarily focus on noncontact kickboxing and/or cardio kickboxing over competitive combat.

We have classes for students of all ages and ability levels beginning at the age of 4. Though for our very youngest students we focus on teaching fundamentals that aren’t necessarily specific to one martial art in particular, we offer kickboxing classes for kids, teens, and adults.
